Physiotherapy is an excellent therapy choice for people of all ages (yes, we know we are a bit biased!). There are countless ways that physiotherapy can help improve your quality of life, but we thought we would highlight 10 of the biggest ones!

1. Reduces or eliminates pain. Physiotherapists use manual therapy, therapeutic exercises, and modalities such as acupuncture, ultrasound, and taping to reduce/relieve pain.

2. Improves mobility. Through manual therapy and individualized exercise programs, physiotherapists can work with you to get you moving better!

3. Improves balance and prevents falls. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in four Americans aged 65 and older falls each year. If your physiotherapist finds in their screening assessment that you have a high risk for falls, they can address the cause and prescribe exercises that are targeted at improving balance, coordination, and strength.

4. Helps manage women’s health issues. Pre and postpartum difficulties, incontinence, and pelvic pain are just a few of the examples of issues that a physiotherapist can help with.

5. Recover from or prevent sports injuries. Physiotherapists are very knowledgeable in which injuries are more likely in certain sports, as well as how to help prevent or lessen them. If you do unfortunately sustain an injury in your sport, your therapist can help you safely return to your activity.

6. Helps seniors continue to live an independent life. Physiotherapists work with older adults to prevent decline in function, maximize recovery for those who have been affected by illness or injury, and manage complex health conditions.

7. Prevent or recover from surgery. By working with a physiotherapist to eliminate pain and restore function, you may be able to avoid surgery all together! If you do require surgery, pre and post operative rehabilitation can help maximize and expedite your recovery.

8. Alleviate dizziness. Dizziness can be caused by a variety of conditions such as vertigo, neck impairments, vestibular dysfunction, and post concussion syndrome. Physiotherapists can differentiate and treat the symptoms of these causes.

9. Recovery after concussion. Concussions from motor vehicle accidents, sports injuries, and falls can all negatively impact your quality of life. Our physiotherapists are trained to help you through this recovery.

10. Helps manage diabetes and vascular conditions. Physiotherapists can help manage diabetes and other vascular conditions, alongside your medical team through therapeutic exercise programs, education, and proper foot care guidance.
